The Felt-Frost (Fibraspecula glacialis)

  • Common Names: The Felt-Frost, Fiber-Glaze, Pink-Sleet, The Attic Shiver.

  • Status: Quiescent; develops exclusively within thick layers of loose-fill fiberglass or pink batting insulation in unheated roof cavities. 

Structural Anatomy

I. Foreground: The Glaze (Near)

  • Texture: Brittle, glassy, needle-like shards that form a shimmering crust over the top of pink fiberglass insulation. 
  • Appearance: It looks exactly like a heavy morning frost, but it does not melt when exposed to heat. The individual glass shards are hollow, acting as microscopic fiber-optic light pipes that trap and store ambient moonlight leaking through the roof tiles. 

II. Midground: The Frost-Loom (Between)

  • Structure: Beneath the crust, the anomaly weaves the loose fiberglass insulation into incredibly dense, geometric snowflake pattern matrices. 
  • The Sieve Effect: This crystalline mesh does not trap dust or moisture. Instead, it traps kinetic heat. It creates an absolute thermal dead-zone, dropping the local temperature within a two-foot radius to exactly freezing, regardless of the season. 

III. Background: The Void Sky (Far)

  • The Interface: The cold generated by the mesh bleeds upward through the roof rafters, creating a localized column of dense, chilled air that extends into the open sky above the house, mimicking a chimney that drafts pure stillness down from the upper atmosphere. 

Behavior & Anomalous Effects

The Felt-Frost is a local thermal stabilizer. It provides the absolute zero environment required to prevent the hot electronic signals of the Watt-Weft from overheating the house framing. 

  1. The Static Chill: When agents enter an attic containing a mature Felt-Frost, their breath instantly condenses into floating, geometric ice crystals that do not fall to the floor. They remain perfectly suspended, trapped by the Dust-Dial’s temporal drag leaking up from Room 204 below. 
  2. The Silhouette Preservation: The anomaly maps the thermal signatures of living things that stand beneath it. If a human sits in the room directly below the attic for more than an hour, the Felt-Frost will weave a perfect, cold, mirror-image silhouette of that person's heat signature into the fiberglass batting above them. 
  3. The Shatter Phase: Touching the crust with a bare hand causes a sudden, harmless drop in skin temperature and a sharp ringing sound, like a crystal wine glass breaking in an empty hallway. The structure collapses back into ordinary, chaotic pink insulation fibers.
